We all remember the times when Google launched as a new, innovative search engine when the search market was already taken by two big giants: Microsoft and Yahoo. And we all know that today, Google has become the search engine that matters, taking a nice 65 - 70 % of the search pie. Would their new web browser, Chrome, do the same and? That’s hard to say.

Anyway, the new Google asset is a browser called Chrome. While still in beta stage, it has already seen an immense response… a lot of people downloaded it and already using it at it’s full potential.

I took some time to dig out the good and the evil and, from what I see, people love it. Chrome is a little slick tool to browse the web. It has enough options and features, but on top of that, it IS fast. Really fast. What I find nice about it is the speed (not being loaded with all kind of crap helps), the fact that I can use the whole screen to actually see the site I’m browsing (by having all menus and shit on one line) and the fact that it creates a thumbnail of the site on the fly (I can use that thumbnail without going copy, paste into photoshop, resize and save).

Chrome is pretty simple. Some people miss their Firefox add-ons, but people, get this: It’s a beta. In time, Chrome has the potential to become the most used browser. The best thing about it is the fact that it is open source. So there’s a lot of room for developers to create their toys for Chrome.

Have a look at Google Chrome homepage, download the browser and give it a try. You’ll love it.

While there are a bunch of onpage optimization elements that needs to be taken care of, the main factor that helps your site in the serps is the offpage optimization. That means links pointing to your site.

And there are differences between the main engines. For instance, yahoo doesn’t make a difference between links comming from the same site. So if you have a sitewide link from a site, yahoo will consider all these links to be different. And yahoo is the only search engines that does it. While msn was doing the same thing a while ago, it seems like it only consider a small fraction of these links.

Google… well, google will only consider a single link, the one that comes from the page it deems to be most important whitin that site. Also, when dealing with sites that use a shared ip, google tends to consider only one link, nomatter how many sites (on the same ip) are linking to your site. And this isn’t the case with msn and yahoo.

Regarding anchor text or what to use instead… Of course that the anchor text is the one that describes the link and the site in question. That is why you should use text links, not images or banners. Although a banner link still counts, it has a lower impact than a text link. As for the anchor text… although yahoo and msn will accept say 1000 links having the same anchor text, google won’t. So if you’re trying to get listed for ‘training dogs’, try to use slighty different anchor texts in your link campaign. A good example is alway ‘how to train dogs’, even ‘training dogs easy’ is a good one. Guess there’s no need to tell you that you’ll always want to put the keywords you’re trying to rank for in your anchor text. Just try to keep it natural. If these would be natural links, different guys won’t link to your site using the exact same keyword phrase.

Where to link from? Well, try to get links from themed sites, in our case from ‘dog training’ or ‘about dogs’ sites or pages. A link from such a site will worth more then 100 links from unrelated sites. Also, the page you get linked from shouldn’t have more then 30 outgoing links. Want a great link? Then talk to the site owner to have your link surounded by relevant, themed text. So can always make up a text of say 20 to 50 words and ask the site owner to put that text and your link into his site. That way both of you get something: you get a relevant link, and the other guy gets a page updated with relevant text. The way to go Anyway, DO NOT get links from a page’s footer, that’s a useless link (atleast for google).

Linking out… Try not to call your page where you put links like links.html, or friends. html. Try to have a page that has some relevant content (text) on it, and when linking out, try to list a small description of the site you’re linking to. Of course, that site should be about dogs. DO NOT link to adult sites, gaming sites, ringtone sites, unless you have such a site

Don’t get 1000 links pointing to your site in one week. Just try to always work on links, but don’t overdue. Getting a few links per day is the best way.

And that’s about it. Good luck, and see ya later.

Yeah, this is going to sound strange indeed. The question is like: Do I optimize my site for search engines or not? The answer is really simple, and it’s clearly stated into the google webmaster guidelines.

In fact, what any of us needs to do is to have a look at these guidelines and work along with them. But there’s more.

These guidelines don’t stand for all search engines. In fact, it seems like all things that google dislike so much are LOVED by yahoo and msn. Although these two engines list some guidelines, artificial seo works for them. With some exceptions.

As you already know (probably), google is the one that we need to concentrate on. Google has managed to take a good pie of the search market, and it’s my conclusion that google traffic is the one that makes money.

So all search engine optimization industry is in fact a struggle. You have to fight with yourself, keep asking yourself which way to go.

The answer is really simple. Why not go with them all?

See ya later.

Simply put, because the search engines are the best way to get some traffic to your site for free. Or almoust.

Now, don’t get me wrong. You’re probably doing your search engines optimization as we speak… I’m sure that your site is actually focussing on certain keywords… probably the name of the goodie you’re selling, or your prefered topic. So you’re actually using these keywords into your site. That is the first step. Using the right keywords, not just wishing to get listed on top of every search for keywords that you don’t use much.

Other then that… there are other things that you should have in mind while updating your site… It’s actually a preety short list. What I need to stress here is not to overdue your pages. Keep a low profile nomatter how much you’d like to do it more agressive. That thing has a name, and it’s called spam. Trust me, don’t do it.

Until now we only discussed some onpage factors. We’ll get back to these a bit later. So you’d think: cool, I did all you said, now I’m waiting for some huge traffic. Sorry to dissapoint you, but that’s just wishfull thinking. There’s more.

That more also has a name. It’s called offpage optimization. It’s about links pointing to your site. In order to get your site ‘known’, you need to make other sites to link to yours. How to do that?

There aresome ways to atract imbound links. One of them is artificially creating them. That means that you should go right ahead and contact other site’s owners, asking them to link to your site. Some of them will. Most of them will also require you to post a link to their site in return. That is called link exchange.

Now, it may look natural to you, but it won’t work right. You see, that is an artificial way to get links pointing to your site. Search engines don’t like that much. So don’t do it too offen. But I’ll get back on that later.

Another great way to attract links to your site (the best way) is to write something unique AND usefull (like I’m doing now, or hope I’m doing). If other webmasters will get to your site and read some of your entries, and their site is on the same topic, and they will like your stories, they’ll link to your site in order to give his visitors a way to read more on what they came for. As said, this is highly recomended and, nomatter how shitty may look, it yields great results.

There’s another way to get links to your site. Simply put: offer something for free. Anything. Some people will love your giveaways and will link to you. I’ll get back on that later as well.

So see you later.

Hi there!

You probably figured out that this little site (Adult SEO Blog) is about search engine optimization. No, this is not about anything ‘adult’, I just wanted to make it clear that this is an adult job (any wise guy can do it).

So what’s this all about? It’s practically about me, about my sites, about my experiments, about google, yahoo and msn (no other search engines, please don’t ask). And it’ll be about all I know regarding the subject.

What’s the purpose some might ask. Well, it’s quite simple. First, I need to have some evidence of my work. And I’m sick of putting these ’statistics’ on my harddrive. I lost em all a few times, so from now on I’ll have em here.

Second… well, maybe someone will read it and learn from it. I have been and still am verry succesful in this. I have around 20 sites, and most of them are on top 10 of yahoo and msn, around half of them are top 20 in google.

So you should have seen me on tv by now, right? Ha, forget it. I’m not Bill Gates (trying to fool him btw), nor any personality. Noone knows me. I’m just an average guy that learned some things in the last 10 years of online activity.

Lastly… my advice. Haha, I’ve heard this so many times: “make a blog, quit your job” that I actually took it. But lemme share this with you: it won’t work. Unless you learn what I’m going to teach: how to optimize your site/blog for search engines.

Next time
